Calahonda, Mijas Costa
Mijas Costa
Calahonda lies in the Municipality of Mijas in the province of Málaga, Andalusia. Situated midway between the larger coastal towns of Fuengirola to the east, and Marbella to the west, it is only a 25 minute drive along the coast from Malaga airport. Calahonda has been a favourite location for many years for both it´s visitors and permanent residents being self sufficient in all amenities and facilities. It is also connected by a stunning coastal boardwalk stretching 5.5 km along the Mediterranean shores from the village of La Cala to the East and to the pretty marina of Cabopino to the west. Much of Calahonda was developed and established by 2002. This makes the project of El Romeral truly unique as it is the first new modern project of this type to be built in many years on land remaining so close to the main central heart and is therefore highly desirable!
Daily Convenience
Within an easy five minutes walking of El Romeral you will find a variety bars and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes. For shopping, Los Olivos is a commercial centre which is right on the doorstep. Here you will find a large Supermarket and plenty of facilities including banks, newsagents and an excellent cafe. There is also a small park opposite. Within five walking minutes is El Zoco where you can shop for all your daily needs not only in the larger supermarkets but also a variety of local specialist shops which cater for all nationalities.
Mediterranean Lifestyle
Torre De Calahonda is a 16th century watchtower, one of several remaining today which were built to protect the coast warning of enemy ships. The new boardwalk that runs for a distance of 5.5km is ideal for enjoying anything from an early morning jog to a more meandering stroll into the evening sunset. It is peppered by beachside eateries with traditional sardines and tasty fresh fish. Plenty of areas also to hire sun beds and spend lazy days at the beach – all within walking distance!
Sport & Leisure
For those who love their sport there is a wide variety on offer locally. For Golfers, La Siesta is an undulating 9 hole, par 3 course in the heart of Calahonda with a driving range and popular club house. Close by are two further courses of 18 holes at Cabopino and Miraflores. Tennis enthusiasts can join Club Del Sol with 9 clay courts, 3 plexi cushion courts, 4 paddle courts, 4 squash courts and a 450 m² fully air-conditioned gym. Water sports are on hand in Cabopino where you can hire kayaks, go paddle surfing, kite surfing or even take a pleasure trip to go dolphin and whale watching.
